Does your photographer have depth, :)?
When you hire a photographer you need to be asking them many questions; one question in particular, that I’m sure is never asked is: “What bit mode do you process the images in?”.
What would this have to do with you and your final images? If you want quality, then quite a bit!!
I’m going to put this as simple as possible.
I for one prefer to shoot in RAW (uncompressed <–which means no camera control to lose quality of your images), and all post processing in 16-bit. In 16-bit mode I would then have access to 281 trillion possible colors. The only time that I compress an image is at the final step, keeping the quality as long as possible! What this means to you is your photos are rich in color, high in detail, editing has many more options and if need be you can always enlarge them to great sizes without losing detail.
Make sure you find out before you throw your money into low quality! Thoughts to consider!
